Aside from the reputable status of Syracuse University as an excellent institution, the university is also distinguished in sports. The Syracuse University lacrosse team has been one of the leading teams in the NCAA since it was first established in the year 1917.

A Syracuse University sports team is officially known as ‘Orange’. The athletes and players engaged in the sports team are called the Orangemen or the Orange women. However, this impressive streak was broken in the year 2005 when the University of Massachusetts defeated Syracuse University in the quarter finals. According to Syracuse lacrosse records, the Orangemen have won 9 NCAA Championships since the NCAA lacrosse tournament began in 1971.
