Beach Volleyball
When summer comes along, some sports are taken to the nearest beach. Volleyball is no exception. Girls playing volleyball on the beach is usually a common sight on any beach. In fact, beach volleyball has become so popular that it has been recognized as a legitimate sport, separate from volleyball that is usually played on a beach court. There is now Olympic beach volleyball and even professional beach volleyball.
Surprisingly, beach volley ball has been around for almost a hundred years. Beach volleyball history began in California in the early 1920s. However, the sport did not enjoy its current popularity until the late 1990s and 2000s when the media started taking more interest in it. With media exposure, came the rise of beach volleyball stars like Karch Kiraly, Sinjin Smith, Randy Stoklos, Kerri, Walsh, and Misty May Trianor, who are now known worldwide. As to its inclusion in the Olympics, it was first introduced as an exhibition sport in 1992, and became a separate Olympic event in 1996.
For those who are truly interested in the game, beach volleyball rules are not hard to understand but there are some notable differences from indoor volleyball. First, the beach volleyball court size is different from that of indoor volleyball, each half of the court measuring 8 by 8 meters, and not 9 by 9 meters as in indoor courts.
Instead of teams of six, there are only two players on each team. Players are not required to rotate positions, but must alternate service. The ball used for beach volleyball is softer and slightly bigger than the ball used in indoor volleyball. Blocks count as first contact and players are allowed to cross under the net as long as they don’t interfere with the opponents attempting to play the ball. Aside from these and a few other differences, the rules are generally the same. Complete rules are downloadable from many different sites on the Internet.
Of course, women’s beach volleyball has a tendency to draw a lot of male attention. After all, what normal man could resist all those beach volleyball babes in hot sexy shorts and bikini tops? Of course, men, making it a sport that appeals to both sexes, also play beach volleyball. Beach volleyball photos can be found online, and so can pictures of many popular beach volleyball players, may they be of pro beach volleyball players, girls beach volleyball players, and of course, women beach volleyball players.
